MEDIA RELEASE – HORN ISLAND HOUSING SUB-DIVISION WELL ADVANCED

The Torres Shire Council Horn Island Housing Subdivision (26 freehold blocks) is now well advanced.

Council worked closely with multiple funding agencies to secure a substantial investment to undertake the subdivision works, including the housing construction. In this first phase of the development, 9 new community homes are currently being constructed, ready for occupancy amid this year.

Mayor Loban said today, ‘We want to thank the community for their patience whilst we worked hard to complete the construction and progress this important community infrastructure project that will ease the housing pressures in our Shire’.

Expressions of Interest will be called soon for all eligible local residents to secure blocks of land to build their own homes. Community information sessions will be provided to advise of the eligibility criteria to access this great initiative. Mayor Loban continued, ‘It’s time to get ready to speak to lending providers about your ability to secure a pre-approved home loan. Home ownership is now within reach of our First Nations communities. Council has removed obstacles for you to access the land on which to build. Keep an eye out for the community information sessions. They are coming to you very soon.’, Mayor Loban concluded.

The housing projects are jointly supported and sponsored by TSRA, the Queensland Government’s Building Our Regions Funding and Torres Shire Council.
