2024 - 2025 ~ Rates & Charges
Rates:
Property owners within the Torres Shire are required to pay rates and charges to Council. The money collected is used to provide a wide range of community services and facilities such as roads, water supply, sewerage, waste collection, parklands, libraries, recreation and sporting facilities.
Frequency of Rate Notices:
Rates and charges for the year ending 30 June 2025 will be issued in two half-yearly Rate Notices in August 2024 and February 2025.
Method of Payment:
Council offers ratepayers various methods of payment which are shown on the reverse side of the Rate Notice.
Discount for payment in full by Due Date:
Ratepayers who pay their rates in full by the ‘Due Date’ shown on their rate notice will receive a 10% discount on their current General Rates (excluding Council’s Pension Remission). Ratepayers who pay by the Due Date need only pay the discounted amount shown on their Rate Notice.
Interest charged on Outstanding Rates:
Interest at the rate of 12.35% per annum, calculated on daily rests, will be charged on unpaid rates after the ‘Due Date’ shown on the Rate Notice.
Pensioner Remission:
Ratepayers who receive a full or part pension may be entitled to receive Council and State remissions on their rates. Application forms and criteria are available from the Council office or on Council’s website.

Property Valuation:
The Queensland Government, Department of Resources (DOR) is responsible for valuing all property in the Region. Department of Resources undertook a general revaluation of property this year, therefore General Rates must legally be based on a property’s new valuation. Valuation enquiries should be directed to the Queensland Government Department of Resources, phone 137 468.
